A successful Home Show for TeamABC
After many weeks of behind the scenes planning from TeamABC members the date finally came and for the very first time Hingham sports and social club provided the stage for the first ABC Home Show of the season. A very good crowd was in attendance and all were treated to a great evening of amateur boxing consisting of 19 fantastic and closely contested bouts. (we lost 2 bouts in the last 24hours due to illness). Thank you to all the clubs, their coaches and boxers who supported our show and all coming in at agreed matched weights.
Local companies both long standing and new to the club once again showed their valued support with every single bout being sponsored. This is so appreciated as without the financial help it gives us the show we deliver would never be possible.
ABC boxers featured in just over half off the bouts on the night (this would have been much higher if it wasn’t for many being involved in national championships as well as current injuries and illnesses to a good number of other squad boxers). With the majority of the squad boxers having personal sponsors, again we would like to express our sincere thanks to all the companies for investing in these young people and their financial support that goes a long way towards covering the associated costs each boxer incurs during the year.
Will Friedman started the evening off with a commanding display in the first of the four skills bouts. Thomas Willett then showcased his boxing skills in a quality bout that was voted ‘Bout of the Night’. Then the last member of TeamABC to have a skills bout and making his debut for our club was young Elliot Cameron who put in a very pleasing performance also. I don’t think it will be too long before we see these lads having competitive bouts, at the same time we are very excited about the emerging talent we currently have coming up through the club ranks and very confident some of these will be showcased on our forthcoming shows.
Finn Harris was the first to represent ABC in the following competitive bouts and got the night off to a great start for the Team with a good performance and convincing win. This was quickly followed by Jack Bacon who produced a great display of boxing to defeat his worthy opponent. Paul Tyler Willett was then involved in a closely fought contest but narrowly lost out to his challenger from Essex.
Another making his ABC debut was Luca Mccomb who faced a good boxer from the capital, eager to impress his new club and supporters Luca put in a very convincing display securing a good win. Next up was the long serving club boxer Tyler Bolingbroke who was involved in an epic battle with both boxers giving it there all in a tough bout. Tyler impressively recorded his second victory within seven days and another victory for TeamABC
It was now the seniors chance to entertain the fantastic crowd and they didn’t disappoint. Making his ABC debut was the experienced and talented Dan Gibson who quickly blew away the cobwebs to make sure victory was his with a fine display of boxing. The last to represent TeamABC on the night was Howie Owyang, not only was he representing ABC for the first time but this was unbelievably his very first contest too!! Being cheered on by a very supportive and large following of fellow students and team mates from UEA Howie boxed showing no signs of his inexperience. It was a fantastic display that also saw him awarded ‘Home Boxer of the night’ and ended a great night as it had started with a victory for TeamABC.
We would like to thank every boxer who boxed on the night with each and every one of them doing themselves and clubs proud. As well as the ABC boxers competing on the night, it was great to see their teammates there supporting them and also helping out with various tasks. A massive thank you to the unsung heroes …. the volunteers and club members who each done fantastic jobs making sure the evening was another success. The time, effort and continued commitment you give for ABC is sincerely appreciated. Sometimes forgotten on exciting nights like these are the officials who all do a fantastic job and if it wasn’t for them and their continuing commitment and professionalism then a show could never happen, we Thank You All.
We now continue with plenty of hard work in the gym, sparring both at the club and visiting other clubs, hitting the road to box at other club shows and national championships. We will also start to plan our March Home Show which will be held in Attleborough once again and intend to build on from the success of this show.
