Defeated but proud and positive performances

TeamABC made the journey down to Surrey last Sunday where Devon Lockwood, Frankie Bacon and Owen Bolingbroke competed in the Quarter Finals of the NABGCs Championships. All 3 lads had bouts against top quality opposition all of which had won major honours so we were certainly the underdogs on this occasion but a situation we had been in many times before and one in which we relish.

Devon was the first to represent his club when he stepped into the ring to face a Double National Champion from Dagenham. Starting the contest well The Rogers and Norton backed boxer quickly found his range and with some good boxing took round 1. However his opponent showed his quality and used his experience to take the final 2 rounds giving himself a unanimous points victory

In the very next bout the Diamond Home Maintenance sponsored boxer Frankie Bacon was against a Repton boxer with a very impressive career record which again included National Titles. In a good contest our man gave his opponent problems with many accurate and quality rear hand punches that were good scoring shots to the head but overall his opposition had the better of the bout winning by way of a unanimous decision.

Owen Bolingbroke was the last of our boxers to try and make it through to the last 4 of this National competition and all that stood in his way was a very experienced and talented boxer from the Powerday Hooks club who was a multi National title winner. Owen got better as the contest went on and though losing the first part of the bout definitely finished the stronger of the two giving his opponent problems with some quality attacks but unfortunately it wasnt enough for the Eastern Attachments sponsored boxer with his opponent getting the result by a unanimous decision

Despite all three exiting the competition. They all did themselves , club and the travelling team of supporters proud with positives in each performance. Coming up against such quality opposition is something these lads need and the experience will undoubtedly be a great learning one which will only improve these three who already have the talent and potential to excel but need the experience to develop even further. The comments received during the day and after the bouts clearly shows TeamABC are deservedly becoming a recognised club producing top quality boxers.
